Siena and Florence
There once were two knights, one from Siena and one from Florence. They both wanted to claim land for their kingdoms, but everyday that would fight over how much land between the two cities each would get. Until one day someone told them to settle it the old way. To settle the dispute one rider from Florence and one rider from Siena would each take off at dawn and race as fast possible towards the other town and wherever the two met would be the new border between the two kingdoms. Being in medieval times, there were no alarm clocks, so each rider would take off when the rooster crowed in the morning. The Florentines used a hungry black rooster and Senesi chose a white well fed rooster. So the next morning the black rooster having not slept crowed well before dawn, leaving Florence with considerably more land.
Siena, you may have lost the battle with Florence, but you’ve won my approval. With Osterias (Restaurants) and Trattorias (Family run restaurants) on every corner, Enotecas (Wine Stores) stocked with the richness Tuscan wine, you’ll always be #1 in my book.
