Small Change/Big Impact

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Yesterday afternoon I wasn’t able to focus.

I couldn’t put the creator hat on and start grinding towards my finished product I have In my mind for a couple projects.

So instead of sitting there and not keep falling into a cycle of not getting things done, I made a change.

I got outside, and went watched the sunset.

It gave me everything I needed yesterday afternoon to revitalize me.

When you’re not getting the results you want, just make a small commitment to change something, anything.

That little change could be a cup of coffee or a quick walk.

The speed of your results are directly related to the speed of your ability to make changes and innovate yourself as much as you’re innovating your product.

What small change do you need to make right now to get the results you need tomorrow?

Now it’s time to get back to work, because the sun may have set again here, but today isn’t over.

Move to Get To a Place That Will Move You

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Last night's sunset on the beach was amazing.

And I didn't get to see it!

Looking at this photo this morning (and doing some light* editing) allowed me to appreciate how far I've come. . I think early last year, I had a little bit of a mantra "Do things that excite you".

If I could go back in time and give myself an updated mantra last year it would be "Don't just do things that excite you; do things that move you."

Sometimes you have to move to get a place that will move you.

All I could think about yesterday, literally all day, was hitting the beach in my new locale.

I got home late yesterday, and I felt discouraged because the sun had literally just set as I got home.

But I didn't want to lose an opportunity, so I threw on my running shoes and got out to the beach.

Would this photo have been better if I had gotten to the beach right before sunset?

Maybe.

But the point is I didn't, and enjoyed these views just as much if not more because I chose to go for that run.

Move to places that move you, and do it imperfectly, because it's those imperfections that make life way more interesting.

Travel and Measuring Up

therealkrislevy_2020-01-08_20-01-57_81041307_1354797371365557_6453452066099148912_n.jpg

If there's anything I've learned about travel, never fall into the trap of legalism. It's never about how many stamps you have on your passport, or what you think you have to do based on what your friends told you they did, what matters is how you travel, and the process you go through during your travels.

Travel speaks to all of us in different ways.

It shows us things about ourselves that we've buried deep, and other things that we never knew were there.

So If we keep focusing on our so called "metrics" of how much we travel, instead of the process of how we lived during our travels, then we become victims to our own devices.

Next time you travel, try focusing on how you spend your time with yourself, I mean really dig deep there and see what's inside.

Then have faith, because the rest will work itself out.

It Takes Work (but You Got This!)

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

No matter where you’re at, no matter what dark hole you find yourself at the bottom of, no matter what corner of the planet or galaxy you find you yourself in, you can get back, you can get home, you can pull yourself out.

It takes work. It takes doing a shit ton of things that don’t make sense at the time. Knowing that they’ll pay off down the road. It takes looking into yourself and seeing what’s there, doing an assessment and working with what you got.⠀

I can’t promise you you’ll end up where you think you’re suppose to be, but if you do the work, and let him work, you’ll end up where you’re meant to be. Because it’s something greater than your journey, or your path. It’s your destiny. And your time is now, because you’re alive right now, so go out and seize it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Starting 2020 Right: Gratitude and Plans for the Year!

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Starting the year off right with nothing but pure gratitude.

Last year was both my best and most challenging year yet, but it's funny how God works to give you just a little bit more than you can handle, so your faith grows just a little bit stronger.

I am so grateful for these moments last year that made me who I am this year and put me on the course I am supposed to be on.

When I look back at these moments, while they were my most liked, I also like to think of them as decisive points in my life, where I had breakthroughs in discovering a little bit more about who I and what I am supposed to be doing.

I discovered my passion for creating, and learned how to use my skills to create from my passions and find fulfillment and in sharing those creations with others.

I learned the value of enjoying the moment, taking a step back, and savoring the calm before the chaos.

I noticed how a just a view has a way of cutting straight to me, and can change me for the better.

I amplified my affinity for learning about wine.

I unlocked my addiction for travel.

I learned to see mountains everywhere, and worked on my strategies for conquering them.

Lastly, I'm most grateful for meeting an amazing human being who works daily to meet me half way and supports me in all my endeavors.

Recently, someone asked me to sum up what 2020 will be for me in one word.

FOCUS.

I'm looking forward to taking more action on things that I care about and my priorities, like my career, my love of creating, and of course WINE!

I have some big things lined up for this year, and can't wait to share them with all of you, so here's to #wheretonext in 2020.

Find the Magic in Every Day

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

We can't always be in the places we want to with the people we want to, but we can focus on our surroundings and seek the beauty we find near us.

Finding the magic in our daily lives keeps things fresh when everything goes stagnant, and prevents us from getting complacent.

Seeing what truly is around us gives us a greater sense of gratitude, that makes us even more grateful for those few moments we get to spend with those who make our worlds whole.

Grateful this week for the awesome memories I've shared with some amazing people in the past month, but also really enjoying the daily process of moving forward, and seeing what great views and allure lie around the next corner.

Being home always fills me up with the things I need, but gets me hungry for what's coming next.

Explore more today and find the enchantment that is always around you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fortune Favors the Prepared Mind

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

“Fortune favors the prepared mind.” - Louis Pasteur || Benton, LA, USA ||

Having been on the road for almost a week now, I’ve started to notice things in myself. .

Being in a constant state of motion physically puts you into a constant state of movement mentally.

But if you want to capitalize on that movement, on those new states you find, you have to be ready.

The best way to be prepared for what a new day or places holds for you is having routine that opens up your mind and body for the day, so you can find a state where you’re ready to receive what the day holds.

Hitting certain areas or touch points of different parts of yourself helps focus you and helps you learn more about yourself and the world around you.

It doesn’t happen overnight, it takes work, a lot of trial and error, and a lot of failing.

Sometimes some habits or routines stick immediately and others seem impossible to start.

But the key is to keep moving.

So find what works for you, and keep moving towards what your travels and your day holds for you.

In Search of Grand Cru

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Constantly in search of Grand Cru.

In French wine making, they have this term.

It’s called Grand Cru.

Only the best vines, planted in the best locations, with the best soil, with steep elevation, that get the best sunlight and produce the best grapes can be called Grand Cru.

There’s something to be taken from this concept, excellence.

The French realized early on that only the best conditions will produce the best grapes

I think we can use the same logic in our own lives.

If we want to produce our own best grapes, we need things like a lot of sunlight (good vibes), established roots in good soil (the environments we choose to put ourselves in), and changes in our elevations (constantly pushing ourselves to new levels).

Yea sure, you can make ok grapes with all the basic elements and a little sunlight. But once you go to make the wine, it’s not going to taste as good as it could be.

We can choose to seek out those conditions that are going to produce Grand Cru grapes in our lives.

And just like the wine, I’d be willing to bet when we produce Grand Cru in our lives, it tastes pretty good!

Be a Craftsman of Life

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Dove into the world of craft foods in countries #23 and #24 this past weekend, Belgium and Luxembourg!

Around every corner was an opportunity to expand the palate.

The Belgians are craftsmen in every sense of the word. From crafting of their chocolates to their waffles, even their pommes frites (aka French fries, don’t worry I used to not be in the know, trust me, ignorance is bliss my friend), they use precision in everything they produce.

We don’t have to be chocolatiers or Belgian waffle makers to be craftsmen.

We get to choose what we want to become the best in the world at, and if we keep persisting, and continue to hone our craft we too can become craftsmen.

Seek out some true craftsmen in your travels this week!

From Mentor to Friend

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

The best part about traveling is getting to reconnect with people face to face that I haven’t seen in a long time. Also one simple joy I have is buying a coffee, or drink or meal for someone when you get to connect or reconnect. I see it as a small token of gratitude when someone gives you part of their most valuable resource, their time. It’s always funny when you catch up with the people that have showed you those simple joys in the first place and they are still the ones buying your meal.

Let me tell about this man right here. He’s been a rock and stalwart example in my life for more than 15 years now. What started out as him mentoring me in youth group and setting a example for me, has now developed into a lifelong friendship. Jeff is truly one of the best out there and has spent decades in ministry.

He is now transitioning into a new “career” as a real estate agent here in one of the fastest growing areas in the country working for one of the top real estate brokerages in the state.
What hasn’t changed is his sense of selfless service to people and families.

Always a pleasure to reconnect and can’t wait to see all the great things you’ll do for the community in the coming years Jeff! If I’ve learned anything from you, it’s that you should always have someone mentoring you and someone you’re mentoring yourself!

You Don't Always Have to Know Where You're Going

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

You don’t always have to know where you’re going. Sometimes you’ll just know when you get there.

Had one of those weekends this past weekend that reminds you why we do it. It’s always about the people around you. While being in the field can feel like you’re missing out, being present and in the moment will remind you of the amazing people you already spend too much time with at work.
Between transiting 25 miles by foot and cooking up some tasty tacos I’d say it was a successful weekend.

Lessons from Dave Phinney of Orin Swift, and the "Big Visions" Podcast by GuildSomm

Lessons from Dave Phinney of Orin Swift, and the "Big Visions" Podcast by GuildSomm

But for me wine will always be infinitely more complex and has infinitely more possibilities for flavors, composition and body. I recently listened to a podcast episode by @guildsomm that featured Dave Phinney who is a wine maker out in California.
