Embracing the Raw Aspects of Life

therealkrislevy_2019-05-20_11-19-03_59578966_463729961036777_2119023038681283457_n.jpg

Raw views like this are the views I look for. Sometimes we need to be real and be raw with ourselves. That’s one of things that I loved about România last week was its raw Beauty. What’s even better than România’s raw beauty is its people appreciation for it. They embrace their city and country with open arms and are full of life.

We should aim to do the same with the raw sides of our lives and embrace it and not be afraid to accept it and share it with others. The more we accept our raw sides of our selves the more we can keep it real.

I like this raw side of us because I think to some it also makes us look like savages. And we should all aim to be savage. I want to savagely chase my goals and dreams, and savagely grind hard day in and day out in pursuit of the mission and objectives.

Time to embrace our raw selves and become savages in our pursuits of bettering ourselves and our missions in life. Not only can we gain more power through exposing our raw and savage selves, but we can inspire others to do the same and change an organization for the better that relentlessly accomplishes its missions and objectives on time and on target.

Stay savage this week!

Travel: Stories from Europe

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

No Sunday scaries here, only stories. Captured here are so many things going on not only in this moment in time, but in our lives as well. I was able to draw out a few lessons from this moment that transcends different times, but also different cultures.

1) The Florian is the Oldest “Caffè” in Europe, and has been serving coffee and tea since 1720. This isn’t its only title, Caffè Florian history can be expounded on for days. But the Caffè serves as a symbol, regardless of how long its been around, as a homage to other times.

2) Which makes this point important. Remember your roots, and where you came from, and keep traditions alive. The white jacket is not just a uniform but a representation of the ideals this Caffè and most of Venice stand for, service and experience. Guests and patrons want to be transformed into 1800s tea house and art salon guests with their white coat waiters serving them.

3) Lastly the moment that this photo embodies. Be present. Or you might not get to put your tea/coffee order in. So a nod to simpler times.

What traditions do you still keep alive?

Transformation

therealkrislevy_2019-05-18_14-47-29_59927336_1036038799917984_8762438742379600142_n.jpg

Don’t conform to your environment, but transform out of it to become the person you need to become. To become the person that your people need you to become. To evolve into the person you want to become. To transform into the person that your destined to become.

How do we transform? Sometimes we get tied down or constrained by our emotions and feelings. When those feels hit you hard, ask yourself whether you’re going to conform to what your environment is making you feel, or if you’re going to make a decision and rise above it like a Phoenix to transform into the person this experience is making you.

Next time those feels attack, accept them for what they are, as temporary and refocus on what’s important now (WIN) and watch those feels pass right on by. Because if we remember where we are going, we can remind ourselves not take detours that will set us off course.

That’s how we transform. Just piece by piece in each little moment of every day. Making one decision today that’s a little better than the decision we made yesterday that leads to a little more action than the action we executed on yesterday.

It may be Saturday, but there’s still plenty of work to be done.

Travel: Romania

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Got to checkout Bucharest this week, and in the process check off country #19, Romania!

What a lively city, that comes alive at night and stays alive through the morning.⠀

The best part of the trip was the people (just like every time). What I truly came to respect about Romanians was their ability to not look up, or down, but just straight ahead, and focus on what they have going on around them. I think that’s something we all can strive for.

Super worn out from a long week of traveling with multiple flights, road trips, meetings and dinners. I think it’s a double edge sword, in that the travel grind wears you out, but it leaves you wanting to come back for more. But a few days of grounding, hard workouts to work off those calories(!), and reset the diet is just what the doctor ordered! Safe travels.

What is My Fascination with Wine?!

therealkrislevy_2019-05-15_15-02-02_60060167_361070427946398_534458633697296423_n.jpg

A lot of people ask me what my fascination with wine is. So I thought I’d take a moment to share with you what keeps me always coming back for more:⠀

Wine absolutely intrigues me. I love stories, especially about wine, and I love seeing where myth, legend and history all blend together to become the story behind a varietal, vineyard, or even a singular vintage.⠀

To me, wine is infinitely complex. It’s uncharted territory. I could spend a lifetime learning everything about wine and never know everything. Which makes it my final frontier. It’s not about how much I learn about wine. It’s about the process of learning about all the wines. It’s the person I can become by focusing on wine and learning what I can.⠀

Lastly, wine is just fun. It’s fun to taste, fun to try and compare different styles, and there’s never a lack of options and varieties. To some people wine can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. I think the trick is just start tasting and learning. That’s the fun part.⠀

What do you enjoy most about wine?

Are You Motivated or Driven?

therealkrislevy_2019-05-14_19-45-32_60662547_421954125306407_4015266497954581653_n.jpg

Welcoming the weekly grind today with open arms. Working on that fresh perspective this week and making a mindset shift for the next few months. Trying to prioritize a couple new projects, and still make time for things that are important to me, keep me level headed and are life giving.

In this process I’m working on my yes and no list. For me, the challenge has never been coming up with a list like this, writing the actual list is the easy part. It’s the habit of habitually checking that list before I commit to any engagement that’s the hard part. Anyone else feel me on this one?

So the process of creating my priorities is very fulfilling, but is super short lived. I think David Goggins said it best, in that you have to ask yourself are you motivated or are you driven? If you’re motivated, anyone can create a list of priorities. If you’re driven, you consistently look at those priorities before making any commitments. That’s where long term fulfilment comes from, just like sticking to a diet or workout plan. Each individual workout or commitment isn’t fulfilling. It’s the long term process of prioritizing and committing to only those things that are in line with your priorities/consistently choosing foods and exercise consistent with your goals. Our word is only as good as our actions that follow through on our word. Don’t make a conscious effort, make a consistent effort of checking those priorities.

How do you weigh the things that give you life and creates mental space in comparison to the things that you have to do? .

Enjoy Our Differences

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Thinking about how we make connections with new people in new places today. Some people, and I say some, when they meet someone new, all they can see if their differences. How they are different from that person. I’d venture to guess that these people have a hard time making connections and building relationships, because all they can see is how the world is different than their world view.

But, then there’s the other people. Those who look for similarities. The ones who look for the common ground. That’s where the magic happens. When you’re able to relate to someone on an emotional level because of all the things you have in common, and more importantly your shared feelings about all those things.

We need to do a better job of searching for the things we share in common with the world and others, instead of scouring for ways in which we stand apart. Let’s rush to find the things we have in common, so that way we can enjoy our similarities instead of disagreeing over our differences.

Travel: Opportunity and Possibility

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

This view always pumps me up. It focuses me on the task at hand. It’s forces me to mentally prepare for a new location, new language, new people, new culture, new challenges.

This is what gets me into my zone. It shifts my mindset. It fills me up with inspiration and ideas. The possibilities are endless.

Maybe you know what your final destination is, but in many ways you don’t know what’s in store for you. You don’t know all the details your final destination will hold. But I hope that excites you, like it excites me.

Super grateful and fortunate that I get opportunities to travel to some far flung places, meet some fascinating people, try fanciful foods, and create fantastic memories with fastidious details in the the finer points of adventuring.

Art History as a Reminder

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

We need constant reminders of the past so we don’t get wrapped up in the complexities of our modern times. Art is one of those reminders.

It gives us peace in the present because through creation we can truly express ourselves and our thoughts and ideas.

And it serves as a constant reminder of our mistakes. It shows us where we were. The lens and filters we had on at the the time and what we knew about ourselves and our world in that moment.

That’s why it’s so important to preserve these pieces and artefacts of history. We all have to do our part to make sure our that our past doesn’t determine our future but it has its place.

Full Gym VS Empty Gym

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Some people love an empty gym. They love walking in and having full reign of the entire space. I think that has it’s place, but personally for me I love walking into a gym that’s full of energy, full of people. Because I know being around them is going to push me to crank out more and give it my all.

But we can’t always have that. Sometimes we have to walk in the gym and workout to the sounds of the crickets (sometimes literally…). We have to go and put the work in. No one is watching.

That’s a true limit. Can you do it all, can you give it the same intensity in an empty gym as you can when all eyes are on you?

Finding Connection in Relationships

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Building on the last couple of weeks of relationship banter, I had a big question in my mind over the weekend on approachability. How do we make ourselves more accessible to other people? How do we stop putting up walls and encourage people to connect?

When we connect with people in a genuine way, we create a one that makes us feel like we apart of something bigger than us. Because we are able to relate to that other person. And we realize that we aren’t the only person in our given situation. We have company. And that’s what connects us, bonds us, and makes us one of the trip.

Sharing your current situation with someone may open up the door to other possibilities you never thought might of existed. And it all starts with being approachable.

When we look at how we are different than someone else, we create a wall between us, because we can’t relate anymore. But when we search out the things that we have in common, once again we are back in the tribe.

What does all this have to do with accessibility and approachability? When we show our unrefined side and things about ourselves we “think” we don’t like, it actually makes it easier for someone to connect.

They recognize either:
A) He/She has the same issue I’m deal with or....
B) He/She has something they’re dealing with.

In both situations we’ve become more approachable because we were willing to show them that side of ourselves.

How likely are you reach out or approach someone when you see they are in the same situation you are?

Relish the Little Moments

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

This shot right here for me is slowly turning into the money shot. Because no other moment is as good as the moment you’re in right here right now. Learning to relish in these little moments because they are peaceful, and ground me before my day goes underway and I lose focus of the peace I had in the morning.

So take these moments for what they are to gain your mental focus and clarity for the day, then go on the offensive. Attack everything that’s on your agenda with relentlessness, violence of action, knowing that you’ll hopefully have an opportunity to reset tomorrow with another one of these moments that will recharge you and reset you and get you ready to attack again.

Seek and You Shall Find

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Seek and you shall find.

Throwing it back today to spending last week in Székesfehérvár, Hungary. One of the most unexpected experiences of my life. Truly surprised at every twist and turn by the people and the culture there.

Székesfehérvár is the place where Hungarians vacation to, so it must be good.

I don’t know what you’re searching for, but you might find it Székesfehérvár. Safe travels to all.

Evolution Athletics

May1_2019.jpg

Loving how being apart of a like minded community improves not only you but the people around you. I’ve been on the ground here in a new place, in a new country, with a new group of people, and I’ve already gotten a reputation of being the gym guy. But I believe because I have associated with other inspiring athletes such as the likes of Evolution Athletics, that when I go somewhere new I just naturally ooze all the goodness from my home turf. People notice you putting in the grind, working hard and not sacrificing your personal standards despite the current constraints on the ground. .
Plus when you get a call out from the boss, that carries some weight. I’ve literally had some one new now every day cross me in the hallway and ask me “you headed to the gym bro?” And i reply of course, just like everyday. But this the part I love, they reply back with “go crush it man.”

We can be the change we want to see in our organizations and environments. But it takes influencing the culture around you with hard work, consistency and building a reputation of getting results, not just with fitness, but with excellence in every endeavor. That is how you disrupt the status quo.

Thanks to Evolution AthleticsJeremy Kane, and Ryan Stayskal for giving me the tools to help me build a culture of not just fitness, but excellence while in faraway lands.

Changes

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Sharing this photo today because it means a lot to me. This was the morning after meeting a few friends in Siena and having an Epic night which is the norm for us when we are all together.

All the elements in this picture symbolizes a lot for me. It’s the calmness of the morning that soothes my soul. The coffee in hand that reminds me to be grateful for what I have right here and right now, and just serenity of enjoying the moment alone.

I recently made this my new screensaver on my iPhone and haven’t looked back! I literally hadn’t changed my screen saver in 8 years . So to me this picture also symbolizes my ability to adapt and change and adjust to a change in the situation, or circumstances or to a new season of life.

Time for more new adventures and leveling up. I’m going to keep this picture as my screen saver, until I take a better one in the next locale.

Authenticity in Relationships

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Giving this whole relationships advice a shot with round two. This transcends our traditional concept of relationships. It’s about connection. And building connection. Both with new people and new ways with people already in our lives.

Have you ever started talking to someone, and you say something that acknowledges what the other person said, and then add to it, basically giving your own spin on it? It would be like saying "Do you like running? I love running in the morning!" and then you respond with "Yes! I love running, but I prefer running in the evenings".

You validated the other person's point of view, making them feel good, but then showed a new part of you that they can relate more to you. Not because you both enjoy running. It's the emotion behind the statements that you relate over. You both feel the same way about running, that's why you feel connected. While you both prefer running at different times of the day, how you feel about running in the evening is the same as they feel about running in the morning.

The more authentic you are, the more other people can relate to you, which leads to them trusting you and will translate into more leads, deeper relationships, and more fulfilment.

How have being your true self helped you in your life, your business/career, or your relationships?

Stop and Smell the Roses

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Taking a moment to take it all in doesn’t take up more of our time that could of been devoted to our other priorities.

It gives us the time, space, and mental clarity to hyper focus on the day ahead, the tasks at hand, and the people important to us. It’s the calm before the storm that prepares us for the chaos ahead.

Take those moments where you can, because sometimes we don’t know when the next one of those moments will come.
