Changes

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Sharing this photo today because it means a lot to me. This was the morning after meeting a few friends in Siena and having an Epic night which is the norm for us when we are all together.

All the elements in this picture symbolizes a lot for me. It’s the calmness of the morning that soothes my soul. The coffee in hand that reminds me to be grateful for what I have right here and right now, and just serenity of enjoying the moment alone.

I recently made this my new screensaver on my iPhone and haven’t looked back! I literally hadn’t changed my screen saver in 8 years . So to me this picture also symbolizes my ability to adapt and change and adjust to a change in the situation, or circumstances or to a new season of life.

Time for more new adventures and leveling up. I’m going to keep this picture as my screen saver, until I take a better one in the next locale.

Stop and Smell the Roses

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Taking a moment to take it all in doesn’t take up more of our time that could of been devoted to our other priorities.

It gives us the time, space, and mental clarity to hyper focus on the day ahead, the tasks at hand, and the people important to us. It’s the calm before the storm that prepares us for the chaos ahead.

Take those moments where you can, because sometimes we don’t know when the next one of those moments will come.

How Do You Find What You're Looking For?

Apr14_2019.jpg

How do you find what you’re looking for?

I think sometimes we look in the wrong places.

Sometimes we fail to properly frame the problem and figure out what it is we are searching for.

Is it something we just stumble across one day as we wander?

Or is it something that we come to realize over time, through a process, that we have it in us.

Venice last weekend pushed the limits of my perceptions, and my realities. I have a new respect for inspiration and the creative process, because I think through that I’m able to slowly find a piece of myself every day.

What are you searching for right now? What limits will you push to find it?

Coffee Mug Reminders

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Soaking up these slow Saturdays while they last.

I have a small coffee mug collection, I like to think they are little stories from my travels and various periods of my life.

I find myself choosing a specific mug based on the mood I’m in.

Today it’s all about the grind. This mug was a gift from my good friend Travis Chapell. I think for me it serves as a reminder that the work is never done.

While traveling is a lot of fun, so are Saturdays like today where I can take a step back, reflect on the past few months and look at the bigger picture.

What’s your favorite coffee mug and what does it remind you of?

How to Deal with a Slump

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

I didn’t want to post anything today. Sometimes we get into funks, moods, and slumps that if we let them drown out our hope.

But I didn’t want to let whatever I was feeling affect what I needed to do. I had to separate my emotions from the action I needed to take.

You can find a similar correlation with travel. While you can’t control what’s going on in your surroundings in a new environment or location you’re traveling to, you can control how you processes and interact with the new locale and people. You are in control of what’s happening inside your head.

Taking action like planning a new trip, getting on the plane, walking out of the hotel, Airbnb, or even tent at the new destination is the first step towards regaining control.

So here’s to tomorrow, because tomorrow is a new day full of hope, that will always offer more than we think it does today. Pour that cup of coffee and begin, now.

Solo Travel and Intrinsic Motivation

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Making my list right now of places I want to go this year, which has me reflecting on not just my trips from the last year but from the previous 2-3 years and how far I’ve come to embrace solo travel.

Solo travel is not easy. It’s hard to think about putting yourself out there and going to a completely foreign country by yourself where you know absolutely no one.

But solo travel is one of the best things you can do to develop into a better person, because when you travel alone the fun you have is only limited by how the number of strangers you talk to. How much you grow as a person is only limited by the number of books you read, and your creativity is only limited by the number of pages you write.

Solo travel forces you to find intrinsic motivation instead of extrinsic motivation which can be found in our everyday lives in the environments where we are comfortable in.

So get out there this year and learn what makes you tick while seeing new lands, experiencing new cultures, and eating new foods and in the process you’ll create a new you.

The Veteran Growth Podcast

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Are you searching for your journey in life?

Last week I had the pleasure of connecting with Kyle and his show The Veteran Growth Podcast. This was my second podcast interview and I have to say it was an absolute blast and absolute pleasure to talk with Kyle on the show.

We talk about a lot of things, everything from entrepreneurship, to our various pursuits of life, how to get better everyday and being relentless. One of the consistent themes of our talk was how everything is a journey.

From Mentor to Friend

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

The best part about traveling is getting to reconnect with people face to face that I haven’t seen in a long time. Also one simple joy I have is buying a coffee, or drink or meal for someone when you get to connect or reconnect. I see it as a small token of gratitude when someone gives you part of their most valuable resource, their time. It’s always funny when you catch up with the people that have showed you those simple joys in the first place and they are still the ones buying your meal.

Let me tell about this man right here. He’s been a rock and stalwart example in my life for more than 15 years now. What started out as him mentoring me in youth group and setting a example for me, has now developed into a lifelong friendship. Jeff is truly one of the best out there and has spent decades in ministry.

He is now transitioning into a new “career” as a real estate agent here in one of the fastest growing areas in the country working for one of the top real estate brokerages in the state.
What hasn’t changed is his sense of selfless service to people and families.

Always a pleasure to reconnect and can’t wait to see all the great things you’ll do for the community in the coming years Jeff! If I’ve learned anything from you, it’s that you should always have someone mentoring you and someone you’re mentoring yourself!

The Power of Consistency

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

No one remembers how you look running the race, only where you stand at the end on the podium.

Moving into the holiday season a lot of people will make an excuse to slow down, and “over-focus” on family.

Family time is important. They are the ones that help support you and get you to where you want to be. And they are the “why” sometimes for why we start our “pursuits” of life. We do it in hopes of creating a better life for them or giving our family a legacy.

But while everyone is making excuses to cut back work, eat more, drink more, and be merry, there are those that will be out there grinding. They’ll get up early on Christmas Day to execute their morning routine just like they do everyday because they understand the power of consistency. Once they’ve written their two pages for the day, crushed their WOD, counted their macros, or sent out their orders they will then enjoy time with the ones they care about most.

Now that we are in the final days of 2018, now is the time to double down, to work twice as hard, to do double our “projected” numbers, and to not settle for mediocrity.

Don’t forget that the reason why you grind hard everyday and pursue something greater than yourself is the reason why your family loves you, because it’s who you are.

So work harder these next few weeks than you have all year, stick to your routine, and then enjoy your time with family. Because you’re in it for the long game and you know that not settling now means getting what you want later.

I am Here for a Purpose

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy. - Og Mandino

Monday Motivation: If You Know Where You're Going

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

The paths we take are never as straight as we envisioned it in our minds, but if you know where you’re going, you can always see the final destination. Some days we take two steps closer, and some days we take one step back. But if we focus, we can always see the end.

You Don't Always Have to Know Where You're Going

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

You don’t always have to know where you’re going. Sometimes you’ll just know when you get there.

Had one of those weekends this past weekend that reminds you why we do it. It’s always about the people around you. While being in the field can feel like you’re missing out, being present and in the moment will remind you of the amazing people you already spend too much time with at work.
Between transiting 25 miles by foot and cooking up some tasty tacos I’d say it was a successful weekend.

Learning to Love Failing

Learning to Love Failing

I love failing. Literally over and over again. I’ve failed so much this year and it’s been literally some of the best things that’s happened to me. I’ve noticed a trend that out of my greatest failures haven’t come my greatest successes but my greatest growth. I haven’t succeeded yet, or achieved success yet. I haven’t nailed it yet. But what I have nailed is myself. I understand myself way more than than I did a year ago. And I’ve developed a process to assess myself and learn more about me, myself and I.

Words of Wisdom from Anthony Bourdain

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Channeling my inner Anthony Bourdain this week, may he Rest In Peace.

While I may not be 22, you’re never too old to get out there. I’m also hungry to learn, figuratively and literally. I like to travel with purpose. I can’t just go somewhere to go somewhere. I like to have a motive for where I’m going, what I’m doing there and who I meet there so I don’t leave with nothing. Sometimes the intention is to have no intention and relax, but I much prefer to have motives. Motives guide my travel itinerary.

Also excited to see the pinnacles of many peoples lives that are going to be touched this week. This week will bring out only the best in a lot of people, and I intend to get the best out of myself from it as well. Santé!

"With every no, you are closer to a yes"

Kris Levy Wine and Fitness

Thanks to John Lee Dumas for always dropping knowledge bombs and interviewing Anik Singal so he can drop this awesome quote.
-
Rack up as many No’s and as many failures as possible today because it just gets you closer to that yes and that success.
